St. Eugene Homeschool Academy exists to provide an environment where our children can grow in their Catholic Faith through academics and positive peer relationships. We are first and foremost a Catholic co-op and our goals are twofold: (1) to select instructors, curriculum, and activities that are faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and that encourage a deep love and reverence for the Blessed Trinity, and (2) to facilitate an environment in which children grow in character: showing respect for their teachers and charity toward all members of the co-op, looking to the Blessed Virgin Mary as their supreme role model. Within this framework, we seek to provide an engaging, challenging academic curriculum which is classical in nature and emphasizes the educational search for truth, goodness, and beauty. It is our goal to help form our children into effective and contributing Catholic members of society. We hope to instill a lifelong love of learning and inspire our students to grow in their love of God and neighbor their whole lives through, communicating this love to others with eloquence, grace, and charity.
Unique to SEHA is the structure of our program. One parent from each family is present as a volunteer during the entirety of the campus day. In this way we promote the unity of the family--extending the natural environment of the home into our academy--while still allowing students the valuable experience of interacting with new teachers and peers. In the SEHA community, it is common to see high schoolers voluntarily leading preschool students in recess activities and the camaraderie of friends of all ages. In addition, we have found our ratio of students to adults to be an amazing support for each child’s growth. This family-centered structure of our program is foundational to who we are. We strive to live hourly the words of Pope Benedict XVI: “It is in the family that children, from the tenderest age, can learn to perceive the meaning of God, also thanks to the teaching and example of their parents: to live in an atmosphere marked by God’s presence.”
